Skilled Home Health Services
- Must have a “skilled need” – require the care of a Nurse, Physical or Speech Therapist to treat an illness or injury
- Must be ordered by a physician
- Must be “homebound” (see below)
- Services may include
- Skilled Nursing
- Physical Therapy
- Speech Therapy
- Occupational Therapy
- Social Services
- Home Health Aide
- Medicare, Medicare replacement plans and most private insurances cover the cost for skilled home health services.
- Medicare covers Skilled Homecare at 100%
Skilled Private Duty Services
- May be covered under Long term care policies
- Must have a “skilled need”, which could include: wound care, lab draws,
injections, medication management
- Must be ordered by a physician
- Does not require homebound status
- This is a private pay service
Personal Care Services
- Non-medical assistance by Personal Care Attendants
- No requirement for order from physician
- No requirement for homebound status
- Services include
- Companionship-assistance with mail, appointments, recreational activities
- Homemaker-light housekeeping, laundry, meal planning/preparation, shopping
- Attendant Care-assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, hygiene, medication assistance and reminder
- These services are private pay or may be covered by a Long Term Care insurance plan.
